The live recording was a sold out event on the night where Maloma had the crowd eating out of the palms of his hands.
Long before rising to national stardom Maloma started making waves around his village over a decade ago. A young Maloma would perform at weddings, churches and schools around his villa Strydkraal, Ga Masha in Sekhukhune in Limpopo. He saw he could make something out of his singing talent after he made little money that helped to aid his unemployed single mother.
Since the death of his father in 1984, Maloma’s mother Maria Maloma battled to make ends meet and provide for Lucas Maloma and his siblings. They would often rely on friends, relatives and church members for food. This prompted Lucas Maloma to put more effort in pursuit of his musical talent. He dedicated his time to serving in his local church, where he played piano and learnt other musical elements and instruments.
Despite the financial hardships, Maloma took his academic work serious. He entered University of Limpopo, formerly University of the North, to pursue a degree in Accounting. He did well for the first two years but he was denied entry to do his final year due to outstanding fees. He had to spend a year outside in wilderness. His musical gift would save him. One day he performed at a wedding and the couple moved by his performances learnt of his financial mishaps and they settled his outstanding fees. In 2005 Maloma graduated with a B.Com Degree in accounting.
